Nude Parade

This post is somewhat overdue. I did my pinks and corals, now here's a rundown of my nude lipsticks. I don't wear nude lipstick often, though there's something inherently appealing about them. Maybe because when I think of nude lipstick, I imagine dark, sexy, smokey eye makeup and smouldering night time looks. We've all been schooled that a nude lip is the obvious companion to heavier eye makeup so that the eyes aren't competing with anything else. The main issue I have with nude lipsticks is that they take more effort to look good. I find they work best with a flawless, glowy base and strong, neutral eyes. Given that kind of makeup isn't exactly my everyday face, I don't have that many opportunities to wear nude lipstick. For the daytime, I usually prefer something with a bit more colour, or nothing at all.

My nude collection, from left to right in the pictures below:
  • Revlon ColorBurst in Soft Nude
  • Rimmel Moisture Renew in Nude Delight
  • Face of Australia Lip Quench in Iced Almond
  • BYS Longwear Lipstick in Beautifully Bare
  • BYS Lipstick in Champagne Rain
  • Australis Colour Inject Mineral Lipstick in Mambo

l-r: Soft Nude, Nude Delight, Iced Almond, Beautifully Bare, Champagne Rain, Mambo

It's kind of impossible to describe each individual colour, as they're all fairly similar and consist of varying amounts of beige/tan, pink and peach. Soft Nude is hands down my favourite. It neutralises and lightens my natural, medium reddish-brown lip colour to a soft, slightly peachy nude, while still working with my overall skin tone. I favour the texture and pigmentation of the ColorBurst lipsticks as I find that they apply to the lip really well without emphasising fine lines. I'm not a fan of really creamy lipsticks, as the product usually just sits on the surface of the lip and smears and smudges. Nude Delight is my second favourite, it's basically Soft Nude but darker and peachier. Iced Almond looks almost identical to Soft Nude in the swatch, but it's actually a touch lighter and has more pink, which looks slightly more brown when worn. Beautifully Bare is more of a medium brownish-pink, though it's still a distinctly nude lipstick on my lips. It's quite a wearable and natural looking colour. Champagne Rain is very close to Beautifully Bare, but the tiniest bit darker and more brown. It also has a hint of frostiness which I don't love. Mambo is utterly unflattering on me as it's way too brown and very much a skin colour. I'm sure it has the potential to look good on someone else, but on me it manages to remove the natural redness of my lips so all that's left is a dull, lifeless brown. If I really want to wear it, I need to apply a bright pink lip gloss over it to add some colour and warmth.

  3. I have Rimmel Nude Delight in my collection too! I'm not fond of nude lips - I've only got 2 nude lipsticks in my collection (and they're not ultra nude, they always lean very peachy) and they don't seem to get much wear time. Bright lipsticks all the way! :P xx

  6. I love how in the bullet they all look so similar, yet swatched all so different. Mind blown!
I love a good nude lipstick, I think I may check out the Revlon and Rimmel ones :)
Also, I think you've proved your lipstick habit that you can split your favourites into categories! That, my friend, is brilliant :)

  7. I too seem to have hundreds of lipsticks all in similar shades. I do love my nudes and pinks though, and soft nude looks to be a beautiful lipstick!

  8. I would love to be able to wear nude lipstick. I have tried a couple and probably got the wrong shades, I always look like I'm sick after applying the nude. Want to try the Rimmel. Heard so many good things about it.

  9. My husband would say, they're all look the same lol. I have the Rimmel nude delight too...thanks for reminding me, gotta find it tho

  10. I use to have beautifully bare then I turned it into a compact lip stick jar thingo.. LOL (as in cutting it up melting it into a little jar) then I toss it out. I like the colour but HATED the BYS Packaging so so much. I got rid of it since then.

Mambo, I don't really use it. It's just sitting there for me. Not a huge fan of it. It's a dupe for MAC Blankety apparently! And also, Sportsgirl All About You is a great matte nude! :D

  11. Adding a pink gloss over is a great idea. I too don't have the right flawless face to wear nudes, they also make me look like i'm really ill :( Would love to see a picture of you wearing a nude lip colour! You have a lovely collection, i think the ones more towards the pinky side will be something i'll try out. xX

  14. I have swatched Rimmel Nude Delight for couple times at drugstores and always think it would make me look washedout, but I am curious and always want to buy it though because a lot of people like it.
I prefer nude lipstick that leans more to pink, but it's not easy to find. *sigh.
that's why I am always on constant search of lipsticks.lol.

Wow, how much are the eyeshadows there?

  16. Love the post! I've become such a big fan of nude lipsticks - but you're right, they take so much more effort to look good. Your lipsticks are all in such pristine condition! Even my newest lipsticks get nicks on them..guess I better take better care of them! lol

  20. I can´t wear nude lipsticks... it just looks so horrible on me. I look like a ghost. I do own a few nude ones (Nude Delight by Rimmel is one of the ones that I own) and I can wear that but then I have to pair it with a gloss :) My favorite combo is Nude Delight and Maybelline ColorSensational Cream Gloss in Coral Blush on top :)

  21. I have a tough time pulling off nudes since my lips usually end up looking washed out, and I look like a ghost -_- I'm definitely gonna look into the Revlon and Rimmel lipsticks the next time I'm at the drugstore, thanks for sharing!

  22. hey great post! i agree that nude lipsticks are harder to pull off, as the slightest smear will reveal ur true lip color underneath and making it look all weird cuz of the big contrast. I tried the revlon nude attitude lipstick, but that one makes me a bit too washed out. Still on the search for better nude lipsticks so thanks for the post!! love ur blog and followed u!! hope u can check out my blog again whenever u have time and maybe follow it if u like? =)

  23. Wow all the colours are so similar. I have the same Australis lipstick but likewise, I'm not too impressed with the colour, looks like I swiped some foundation on my lips!

  25. great posts! i love nude shades and always love trying new ones!

  26. Hehe, it's true that they all look quite similar at a glance, especially in the 3rd picture (which is adorable, by the way!) but I have a few too many nude shades myself. I own Revlon's Soft Nude actually, and I really do like it! That hint of peach makes it easier to pull off than "whiter" -- thus "deadlier" -- nudes.

  27. I love the look of nude lips on others, but I have never been able to make it look good on me. Maybe I just haven't found the right shade of nude lipstick yet. It's nice to see your collection. It gives me some ideas of colors to keep an eye out for! :-)

  28. soft nude and nude delight are my favourites! Another one that i have is revlon's superlustrous lipstick in just enough buff but that one isn't as opaque so it's better for the natural everyday kind of nude lips if u get what i mean haha :P
