Kooky For Korres

My love affair with Korres Lip Butter began when I saw Pomegranate in my friend's makeup bag. I'd never heard of or seen these little pots of buttery lip balm goodness before, and something about the impeccable packaging immediately hooked me. As Sarah Jessica Parker feverishly whispered in her Covet perfume ad, I had to have it. At first the only place that I knew sold them was Mecca Cosmetica at Myer for $18.95 each. If they weren't available anywhere else, I still think they're worth the price, but thankfully I found them on ASOS for a much more palatable $10-$11. Then came an amazing offer on StrawberryNet where a pack of 3 (Pomegranate, Wild Rose and Jasmine) were being sold for around $12. It was never to be repeated, but thankfully I snapped one up in time. There's currently still another Lip Saver set (of Guava, Pomegranate and Mango) on StrawberryNet for a very nice $19.50. Right now, I have all the shades except Quince and Plum. I'm not too keen on Plum, as from swatches I've seen, it very closely resembles Wild Rose, but the collector/hoarder in me really wants Quince to complete my set.

l-r: Guava, Jasmine, Mango, Pomegranate, Wild Rose

l-r (first row, then second row): Jasmine, Mango, Pomegranate, Wild Rose

Pomegranate on cheeks (with NYX Taupe as contour)

Out of the ones I have, I find Jasmine to clearly be the most moisturising and buttery. Pomegranate and Wild Rose, in comparison, are slightly less emollient, though much more pigmented. Guava and Jasmine appear more or less the same on my lips, with Guava having more of a whitish tint and Jasmine more of a pinkish nude. Mango and Pomegranate are also very similar when applied, with Mango more a straightforward orange (like Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti) and Pomegranate more red/coral. Wild Rose is the darkest colour, a blue-toned berry red which for me, is a bit too heavy for daytime wear. I prefer this blotted on my lips, or as a cheek tint.

What I love about these Korres Lip Butters is the darker colours can be substituted for cream blush. I thought I was the only weird one that used them for that purpose, but when I inspected more closely the packaging on the Lip Saver set, there was an actual note on there that they could be used on the cheeks for a natural tint. I've dabbed and blended Pomegranate on the apples of my cheeks to freshen up and add some colour to my face many nights when I've been out but didn't have anything else in my bag. A small amount goes a long way and properly blended in, doesn't feel noticeably sticky or greasy.

Each pot has its own distinctive scent matching its name. Guava reminds me a bit of the scent of preserved plums. Jasmine doesn't really smell like anything particular to me, it's sweet in a milk candy kind of way. Pomegranate is quite tart, but also mellow. Wild Rose is the most unique in that it's neither sweet nor fruity. It has this understated, slightly musky rose scent without being syrupy sweet or artificial.

Bit of trivia. Cameron Diaz uses the Korres Lip Butter while talking to herself in an aeroplane toilet in Knight and Day. I'm sure that couldn't possibly be intentional product placement, so I'm choosing to think that Cameron Diaz had that in her purse and did a bit of improv.

  1. These look great, though I probably have enough lip products to last me a lifetime! I'm going to have to resist running out and purchasing these.

  4. Cameron Diaz has good taste in lip products :) I have Jasmine (and a backup of it) as well as some of their liquid lipsticks, but I wear Jasmine to bed each night and love the sweet milky scent :)

  8. Love these- may just pick up the other Lip Saver set for Mango and Guava... Haha love a bit of trivia. Jasmine smells divine but Pomegranate is definitely my favourite colour-wise. :) I haven't tried using them as a cream blush! Might give that a go when I'm bored or out without much else on hand. :) x

  10. OMMGG! I recently heard about these to and just HAD to have them. I just got my first one (Jasmine) from Sephora yesterday. I`m in love that`s all I can say! I had been stalking Winners (a discount department store) for a while because a couple Canadian bloggers found a 3 pack of Korres butters for only $6.99 but I didn`t have such luck. I love the packaging so much, the look and texture. I can`t wait to get more. I`ll be doing a haul featuring mine soon!:)

  37. Seems like an amazing product but, the fact that you have to dip your finger into the product turns me off, among other things this is why I didn't like The Body Shop lip butters. Having said that, I'm happy that you like them and that's a nice collection you have going on there ^^ xx

  44. I've had the Jasmine lip butter on my fantasy beauty product wishlist for what feels like forever, but I can never find them at a decent enough price in the UK, boo! I think I might be able to justify a mini-splurge on one now that I know they can be used as a cheek tint, though ha xx

  52. I think you have officially gotten me sold on these little pots of goodness! They look gorgeous and I love it when a product has multiple uses, these look great on both the cheeks and the lips! Btw, how are you liking NYX Taupe as contouring, I remember you mentioning about not being able to contour well for your cheeks...did it make contouring easier?! I think it looks great on you! :)

    1. Lol I was going to make a post about NYX Taupe, which is why I did my laughable attempt at "contouring" here (because I did it before I put on the Korres). I don't think it really does anything in terms of slimming down my face because my face is so large and flat, and the natural hollows (as faint as they are) don't exactly correspond with where I guess I'm supposed to be placing the bronzer/contour shade, so I can only conclude my face isn't designed for "contouring" :P But I try! I'm pleased it's not really ashy on me, though to be honest I think I prefer the bronzer in my Napoleon Perdis contour palette.

  55. Great pics! I have wanted the shade "Quince" (though I'm loving Pomegranate a lot more now too) for quite a while but after reading this review I will definitely be picking it up next time I am out. They are pretty cheap too considering you can use them as a good cheap colour too. Love the review :)

  56. Also the price as just gone down to $16 at Mecca, when they reduced their prices on a lot of other products. I know ASOS is still cheaper but an extra five bucks isn't so bad when you can go in and play to find they ones you like most.
