Lipstick Cake

Browsing Priceline recently, I noticed two new Australis Colour Inject lipsticks, one in a bold coral/red colour, and a lavender pink adorably namedLick the Icing. Australis regularly release limited edition shades, and while the last two (Hula and Hustle) didn't call out to me, I simply couldn't resist Lick the Icing. At the very least I did some preliminary screening at the store by swatching Lick the Icing next to Revlon Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake and Maybelline ColorSensational lipsticks in Juicy Bubblegum and Rosy Dream. Satisfied there weren't any dupes, I took it to the counter. Despite the fact Lick the Icing has a distinctly purple undertone, and I'm constantly complaining how pink lipsticks look purple on me. And I'm painfully aware I have a million pink lipsticks, half of which don't even look good on me, that I won't be able to use up by 2018. It's safe to say I have a problem.

Lighter coloured lipsticks can often be problematic as they can apply quite patchily and emphasise fine lines and dryness. However, the formula of the Colour Inject lipsticks is genuinely moisturising and the colour settles nicely on the lips. A lip liner beforehand would give a more polished look.

l-r: Lick the Icing, Primrose, Pink Pout, Pink Champagne, Jive, Juicy Bubblegum, Strawberry Shortcake

I was surprised to see how different Lick the Icing is to some of my other pink lipsticks (I say some because unfortunately, I have more). The other lipsticks (from left to right: Revlon Primrose, Revlon Pink Pout, Face of Australia Pink Champagne, Australis Jive, Maybelline Juicy Bubblegum, Revlon Strawberry Shortcake) look darker and more rosy or berry-toned. In comparison, Lick the Icing is lighter and more pinkish-purple. Oddly enough, I don't find that Lick the Icing looks overly purple on my lips. It's closer to a bright pink that leans slightly lilac, which I find a more wearable option than a lavender lipstick like Revlon Lip Butter in Gumdrop, or darker, more outright purplish/grape lipsticks like Australis Colour Inject in Limited Edition 1.

  4. I don't know if that would be flattering on me, but wow I really want to try it out and see!

  5. The lipstick color looks gorgeous!!! Haha and I'm glad it actually didn't fit into that generalized category of purple undertoned pinks don't work against your asian skintone. I really wished this brand was available else where - I want this color now omg! Btw, how do you like Revlon Pink Pout? It also looks like a pink i'd want to try :P

    1. I really like Pink Pout - Revlon lipsticks are probably my favourite brand. It's the matte formulation but I don't find it all that drying. It's quite similar to Primrose (Super Lustrous lipstick) on my lips though, because I have quite naturally pigmented lips.

    2. I haven't tried the matte lipsticks from Revlon just cause there was so many mixed reviews so I didn't go check out the colours all too much. I think I might give this one a go then :)

    1. Yes it is :) I have quite a few of their lipsticks, I don't love the smell but I think the formula is moisturising and feels comfortable on the lips. I don't know if I really pull off the colour, but I've started to just go with it anyway :p Wear whatever you like is my new motto ;)

    1. Lol, it's madness! Pure, unbridled madness. A horrible affliction. I wish I were like you and only had a relatively small number of lipsticks and lip products :p I could be content with just Berry Smoothie or Honey as a daily lip colour that I'd actually use! I think vibrant colours would look great on you - there's something fabulous about a statement lip :)

  14. Gorgeous pinks! I am in search of a pink lipstick which will look good on me. As much as I love pink, I don't own a lot of pink lipsticks as I find most of them don't look good on me.

  15. That cool toned pink looks great on you. It almost looks like a nice pastel lavender. I have two Australis Colour Inject lippies in my collection and I love the shades but I don't reach for it as much because of the scent.

    1. It's darker in real life, more like a bright pink that leans purple. But that's also because I have really naturally pigmented lips. I know what you mean about the scent - it put me off as well. But I like the formula of them. I hate the scent of the Face of Australia Lip Quench lipsticks as well, I find them even worse than Australis. But the colours are just so pretty :p

  21. That is a lovely color indeed! I feel the same about Revlon's Gumdrop, it's a lovely shade in the tube but not entirely wearable with my skin tone and it's purplish tint. Too bad this is only available in Australia ...

  22. I am very impressed with the texture of this lipstick. It looks so smooth and it doesn't emphasize fine lines even though the colour is quite light. The colour is really cute too.

    1. I agree, what impressed me is the formula. For such a light coloured lipstick, it applied really smoothly and didn't settle into fine lines too much (Revlon Lip Butter in Creamsicle, I'm looking at you) :p

  30. LOLLL it's okay. though i don't have so much lipsticks that'll last me until 2018 but i do have a shitload of eyeshadows that i'll probably never, ever finish...it's very sad :(

but great review! the color is really nice! reminds me of barbie :DDD i need to step out of my comfort zone when it comes to lipcolor T_T i always tend to stay around the natural pinks *sigh*

  31. It looks really beautiful on you! I think it'd be too purplish and unflattering on me, but it goes well with your skin tone. I have lots of pink lipsticks too. I guess we're always looking for the perfect one! And once we find that, we need variety so we shop around for the next perfect one and so on. :P

  32. I'm glad i'm not the only one who finds that pink lipstick looks kind of purple on me. I'm always on the hunt for a pink lip color that looks good on me, but so far, the best pink is some really old Revlon lipstick I have from 10 years ago. I should throw it out, but I can't bring myself to because it's the best color I've got! ><

  33. I'm always amazed (and slightly jealous) of people who can pull off that purple-y pink lip color as well as you! I totally know what you mean about pink lipsticks, I have a trillion of them that I NEVER wear because they look horrid on me, yet I keep on buying them just to see if I can find "the one" ;)

  34. What a fun bright pink! I have a vague feeling pink that vibrant would make me look like I spray tan but I love it on light skin complexions like yours! Maybe I'll have to try it once, just for you!
